"The Addicted" update... Kim Wilde 'SnapShots & Greatest Hits' Tour

I've been a tad quiet for the last couple of weeks... because i've been on tour with the lovely Kim Wilde again. Although making movies eats up a lot of my time and is hopefully what i'll be doing with more of my time in the future, right now i work as a sound engineer too... and i still love it.  It doesn't feel like work a lot of the time.... i get to tour all over the World with Kim and her great band who i've been working with for years and i consider some of my closest friends. This time we were touring Germany and Switzerland.

Kim's 'Snapshots & Greatest Hits' Tour has been a lot of fun. We blew the audiences away every night with a stunning 2 hour set featuring some of the best playing you'll hear anywhere. And we're not done yet. We've got lots more gigs all over Europe from now until the end of the year including picking up the tour again in October to cover France, Holland and possibly some other places...
The 40Ft Artic Truck that carries the stage, PA and lights and the 2 nightliners that carry the band and crew.
For the technically minded among you.. I mixed the show using a SoundCraft Vi6, with an Avalon VP737 Pre-Amp for Kim's Vocal. I used my usual Macbook Pro/Mainstage FX set-up running Lexicon Reverbs and Logic Tape Delays. The PA system was an L'Acoustic DV-Dosc line array with up to 12 Subs (space allowing) . My System Tech was Hannes from SoundHouse in Germany, and as usual, he did an amazing job every night of setting the system up for me and making it very easy to mix on.
The Avalon Mic Pre and the system controllers.

My SoundCraft Vi6...(well, mine for the duration of the tour...)

Day One...load in. I'm so glad i don't lift these things anymore. But my mate Daz loves it. (hahaa)

Lights, Screens PA and staging... making it all fit into very different venues was tough.

Some of you may know that Jonathan Atkinson (one of my co-producers on 'The Addicted') is also the drummer in Kim's band... so we weren't completely off duty when it comes to the film. We watched the edit right through on the tourbus and Jon started work on the dialogue placment/mixing on the tourbus too! It's amazing what you can do on the move now... laptops and huge hard drives have changed everything.

Since getting back to the studio today, i've already got some more of the foley done and we're still on schedule.... in fact, it's probably time we dropped a teaser trailer on you. Watch this space...very soon.

The Addicted Production Diary Episode 4

Scheduling, planning and getting ready for a shoot... what we learnt and how you can do the same. Also a few sneaky looks at some scenes from the film itself...and the usual behind the scenes snippets.

I'm touring in Europe for the next 10 days, so this one is slightly longer than usual to make up for there not being another one at the end of the week.

There's still more press appearing  all over the net about 'The Addicted'.. here's some of it..

Atomos puts me on their site...

The nice people at Atomos who make the Ninja Pro Res recorder that i use with my Sony FS100 have added a page about me to their website.  I'm very grateful for the plug and i hope it shows how much faith i have in their products.

I used the Ninja on another shoot last week which would not have been possible to do any other way. I needed to shoot a band rehearsal in an hour and then edit together a 3minute teaser and get it back to the client the next day.

If i had shot in any other codec apart from Pro Pres, i'd have been transcoding when i should have been editing and i'd never have got it done in time. As it was, i took my footage directly to the edit and then exported without the need for much in the way of rendering.

More Press Coverage For 'The Addicted'...

Spanish Horror Website 'Therapy Of Terror'

Well Respected Horror website 'Dread Central'....again thinking we're a 'found footage' film... we're not.

News of our horror feature 'The Addicted' continues to spread around the World. We've had interest from all over the place including several distributors from the USA and Europe.

Progress update: Well, the good news is...the edit is done! We've finally got to the end of the longest and trickiest job, although i will go back and fine tune it once the audio is done. I've chopped the huge file into 5 reels which myself and Jonathan Atkinson will be working on simultaneously from now on. I'll be recording and mixing the foley, while Jon pieces together the dialogue audio and then composes and records the orchestral score.

In the meantime, we've got a teaser trailer to release... and the final version of the winning poster to show you....   which we'll get to very soon.
